Couple Concert videos.

here are a couple video's from last night's concert. The first is James Morrison who is very good and opened for Adele. The second is Adele. I LOVE this song.. she has this great voice and the cutest thick English accent. She is also a BIG Obama fan so how could I NOT love her :) .

Happy Friday..

Happy Friday..
I am tired since I went to go see Adele in Concert last night at the Warfield in SF. Just not the same getting home super late, and having to get up early the next morning. I was very thankful I went though, GREAT show and Adele was wonderful. I think she is the best live performance I have seen, and I have seen several. She sounded EXACTLY like her CD, and is such a fun person. I went with Devyn, Laura, and Laura's husband. It was fun.
This weekend we have lots going on bday party for D's friend, Date night with Keith, and then superbowl.. with running around in between.
Here is a video of D dancing and saying bye. This was taken about 3 weeks ago. K was getting out of the car and I was taking D to meet some friends for dinner. He was dancing to the music, and saying bye. If you listen you will see that he has started to say "Bye Keith" from time to time. Keith is not too happy about that, which makes Darrian laugh.
Here you go. If you can't see this go to http://www.dnmthornton.blogspot.com/ ..

A friend's success..

A friend's success..
I wanted to share this video and a little story. Some of you remember Jana, a client of mine who became a friend. She lost her Fiancee Matt one week before they were suppose to marry. It was sudden, tragic, and shook me to the core. Jana and I have kept in touch over the last few years, and check in from time to time. She moved back to LA from NYC, and started life over. She landed a great job at a marketing firm and joined a band, playing lead guitar. The band the Monthlies have toured, and I went to go see them when pregnant with Darrian in SF with Niki and Nicole. A fan entered them in the "Airwalk Unsigned Hero Contest", not only did they make in the top 20.. they won the whole THING. They get to play at Spin's Magazine showcase in Austin, Music video, and lots of great publicity. The band's name is The Monthlies. She sent me a email of the behind the scene's of the recording of the video, the video itself "Hip girl" will be ready in three weeks and I will post it here. They play in and around LA every week, if your in the area check them out.. and tell Jana I send my best wishes.

A Day to Remember Forever...

A Day to Remember Forever...
It has been almost a week since our President took office. It has taken me this long to try and put together the feelings I have about it, I still am not sure I can. I think you all know how I feel about President Obama, how deeply I hoped and cared in this election. I watched the convention in 2004 and googled his name right after to see who this guy was. I then read his books, I watched him on Oprah. I was then taken in by his bi-racial upbringing, how he handled it, his grace. I have always been amazed at how his speeches move me. To see nearly 2 million people gathered, and even more at home to see this moment showed me how much he moves so many. I find it to be his greatest gift. I remember when Palin belittled his community organizer work in her nomination speech, how upset I was. I was thinking perhaps she was watching and seeing how that work has spilled over to moving a whole country. So many people interviewed said what I feel, he makes you want to do better, he inspires. I know he has a huge amount of task in front of him, but I really think if anyone can do this.. he can. He will. I think he will be one of our best President yet. He is the hope every generation needs. When I think of all that, I think of how lucky I am to see this, to live it. I took Tuesday off to soak it ALL in, to watch my son play as I hoped for our future. Thinking about telling him someday, that he too clapped when others did, and he too stopped to sway to Yo Yo Ma play. That even though he does not know how big this moment is, or the doors and dreams it will open for him.. that he was apart of it. That he too in some small way was moved by the events.
I was moved to tears so many times during that day, but really overcome with joy too and as I said before hope. I thought a lot about Black Americans, some of friends and family, and what this moment must mean to them. That no matter how far they have come in their life, there was always a place they could not go.. and now they are there. I thought of the slaves who built the White House, and I wonder if they ever stopped to dream that someone like them might be the people in charge of that home, of this country. I thought of all those who fought during the civil rights era, all races, who stood up against what they knew was wrong. We have come so far. It goes to show you we can change, and what many said was never not possible just happened... YES WE DID.

Stats

Love this picture, he is biting the straw on his cup, it looks like a snarl but it cracks me up.

So friday D had his 15 month appt. (actually 16 mo.), I thought he had a 12 mo. appt. then a 18 mo. one and that was it. Nope Kaiser called and left me a message telling me I did not schedule one, and so they did it for me and for me to bring him in. So I did. He did really good, although they had a computer in the room and he LOVES to type on keyboards so he kept trying to crawl down to get to it.

The Dr. was impressed, he knows about 20 words, and is chatty. Walking, running for months now so she was happy. She said he is very smart, and who I am to disagree? :) She also said he is tall for his age, don't know where he got that from.

His stats were:

33 inches
and 30 lbs

both in the above avg. area.

So he is healthy, and cute, and smart.. I think we will keep him :)
Catching up..

I had a nice long 4 day weekend :). My company had Monday off for Martin Luther King day, and I took Tuesday Inauguration day off as vacation to watch history and a change I am looking forward to take place.
In true me fashion, the weekend was filled with lots of fun times. Keith threw his back out last week so he has been resting it up, and I have been trying to keep Darrian busy while he heals. Friday Darrian has his 15 month wellness check, more on that in another post. After the Dr's. we met my friends Laura, Kelly and their husband's for dinner with the kiddos. We went to this place Little Star Cafe (where they know us because we have been there a BUNCH of times even though they just opened) where they serve food (and beer and wine) and have a great play area where the kids can play with each other, and the adults can sit and ACTUALLY talk! We had a great time. Saturday Darrian and I ran to Target, then went with Grandma to Sonoma for a picnic. It was a bunch of fun, although hard to contain Darrian for running all over in a big open space. Sunday Darrian went to a birthday party of one of his pal's Tyson, he had a blast playing in this car the WHOLE time (he does the same at Little Star Cafe, they have the same Car). After a lot of fun he was out, and took a 3 hour nap and I used the time to go shopping with Kelly. :) Keith and I watched Slumdog Millionaire, good movie but sad people live like that.

What day am I on now??? OH yes.. Monday. We met Kelly and Greyson at LSC (Little Star Cafe) to play and have breakfast. Then came home so D could nap. When he woke up we took him to this little park nearby to feed the ducks, and play. He was more interested in the "wa-wa" (water) and had to spend a lot of time keeping him from going for a swim.

Keith's Mom once told me about how Keith when he was a small boy was obsessed with "wa-wa" and if they were driving and he saw a pond, fountain, or lake he would cry for it over and over "wa-wa, wa-wa, WA-WA". Funny how DNA works, Darrian is the SAME way now. He loves his water and calls for it when he sees it ANYWHERE.

Tuesday needs it's own blog.. so here are some pictures from the other days.

Looking at the Airplane. :)

Love this deciding what to do next look..

I know this is blurry because he can move fast, and my view finder was on the background.. but you can sort of see the look of joy on his face when running.

haha this face cracks me up.

The birthday Party..
He was in the Car MOST of the time. I did pull him from it a few times so others could have a chance. The birthday boy's cousin was trying to trick him out of it by getting him interested in the horn. It did not work.

Goodie bags. with Train whistles which D loved.

The cake.

It was a train themed party, because the bday boy LOVES them. Here he is, at the train table of course.

Pinata time, where they pull strings a GREAT idea and so much safer than arming a 2 year old with a bat!

D in the mix.

I LOVVEEE this picture. Cracks me up because he loves phones, and is acting like he really is getting a call from the dispatcher. I have to get him a car like these, he loves them.

Hope you all had a lovely weekend, If you can't see pics in the email go to http://www.dnmthornton.blogspot.com/

Getting ready for a new era...

Getting ready for a new era...
I am so happy to have a new President coming into the office next week, I know in my life I have NEVER been more ready for change in that office. I am really excited and hopeful of what he will bring to America, I know he has a lot to deal with.. but I think he can handle it. He wrote a letter to his daughters, and I love it. I love how open he is, candid really.
My favorite part of it was :
" When I was a young man, I thought life was all about me-about how I'd make my way in the world, become successful, and get the things I want. But then the two of you came into my world with all your curiosity and mischief and those smiles that never fail to fill my heart and light up my day. And suddenly, all my big plans for myself didn't seem so important anymore. I soon found that the greatest joy in my life was the joy I saw in yours. And I realized that my own life wouldn't count for much unless I was able to ensure that you had every opportunity for happiness and fulfillment in yours. "
I think because he puts into words how I feel about Darrian, and how most parents feel I am sure. I am taking Tuesday as a holiday, I have Monday off already.. a four day weekend and a weekend of change, I am looking forward to it.
here is the entire letter http://tinyurl.com/8q3yp9 enjoy!

Don't Play SMALL!!

Don't Play SMALL!!
Today's quote a favorite of mine, it reminds me that we do not do anyone service by playing small.
"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous?' Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. It is not just in some of us, it is in everyone, and as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."

Shake your groove thing..

Shake your groove thing..
A little glimpse of D dancing to Ellen a week or so ago. This is my last post of the day, I promise :)

Baby Please....

Baby Please....
D's cutest words.. I took this last night, he is saying please for the camera and trying to come and get it. He stole the plate from the kitchen, his new fav thing to do. It is the cutest when he come and says "wah-wah pwweeaassee". How can I say no?

If you can't see this go to www.dnmthornton.blogspot.com

Couple of funny pictures!

Couple of funny pictures!
Darrian is funny. He honestly makes me laugh, he doesn't know he is, he just does with the way he does things. When I get home from work, I put him down and go to get changed and get dinner going. The other night he decided to go into the bathroom (he knows how to open the doors) and climb in the tub, with all his toys, and Keith's brushes. He thought it was so funny when I found him. The second picture is his new hiding spot. He will go there and sit, for a LONNGG time. Just thinking. Keith said he even fell asleep there the other day. :)

Happy New YEARRRRR!!!

Happy New YEARRRRR!!!
Goodbye 2008, hello 2009. It is going to be a GREAT year. Part of me is typing that believing it, part of me needing to believe it. Last two not so great. This one, I want to look back at the end of it and go.. EVERYTHING about this year was great, it was a great year. Part of that is positive thinking, so I am trying.
I had 5 days off work, that was fun. I met up with my Mom friend's on Wednesday and had a great time at a playdate with them and the kids.
Mom and I decided to take daytrips on those days. We went to Standford shopping Mall, then to the foothills (long car ride, lots of rain), then to the SF Academy of Science to play (the place was PACKED STILL), then K and I took D to the childrens discovery place on Sunday. It was a good long weekend that of course went by too fast. I don't have a million goals this year, I have a few, I hope to really make them the trend. We will see.
Hope your 2009 is treating you all well!!

Christmas Recap.

Christmas Recap.
It came and went really fast. It did not feel like Christmas that much to me, I guess it has to do with the changing of traditions that we were used to. In time I think that we will be used to them and then it will feel right again. Darrian had a great Christmas. He really loved all his stuff, and he got a ton. He liked Elmo that Grandma got him. My favorite gift came from my Mom, it was a camera lens I have been drolling over for almost a year, and a external flash. What more could a Camera hungry girl ask for right??
Christmas eve I took Darrian to the children's Mass at church, it was not as enjoyable as I wanted it to be because Darrian is not into sitting in one place for an hour. We lasted as long as we could, and then I went home to cook dinner for the family. Mom stayed the night to be there when Darrian opened his gifts in the morning, and Auntie Devyn came over for breakfast on Christmas morning. That afternoon we went to Chris and Julie's for Christmas dinner. Her family was nice enough to invite us all over. It was a good time, we had a bunch of fun like we always do.
Friday Mom invited us on a trip to Monterey where we had a really nice time relaxing, going to the aquarium, and the beaches. It was a great ending to a long Christmas weekend.

These are in no order
